HOPESFALL: New Album Track Listing Revealed

February 23, 2007

HOPESFALL has announced the track listing to its upcoming Trustkill album, "Magnetic North", due on May 15. The follow-up to 2004's "A-Types" was recorded at Vudu Studios in Long Island, NY with producer Mike Watts (AS CITIES BURN, AS TALL AS LIONS, etc).

Comented guitarist Josh Brigham: "Mike Watts went above and beyond the call of duty. He worked twice as long as he got paid for, made a lot of great suggestions, and basically let us do what we wanted with a little bit of tough brotherly love. On top of all of that, he is a bad-ass dude and we like hanging out with him."

The title of the album, "Magnetic North", is a metaphor for personal searches, according to singer Jay Forrest. "Magnetic North is an analogy to something constant that's always wandering, like the magnetic poles that are always there but consistently moving," he said. "This record was a very personal search quest, taking a bit of angst from 'Satellite Years' and a bit of instrumentation from 'A-Types' and progressing much more forward."

Giving a preview of the new album, Forrest states that his personal favorite track is "East of 1989, Battle of the Bay". "While I spent some time away from 'record writing,' the other guys had demoed the music for 'East Of'. When I came back to the song I took a much more instinctive approach lyrically and melodically compared to some of the other tracks... the feelings and thoughts behind the song, to me, made it seem like the song wrote itself."

The intricate cover art was also carefully chosen by the band and done by Chandler Owen, who does the art for all of their releases. Of the meaning, Brigham said, "The inspiration is a dream within a dream," and Forrest added, "It was more of a dream within an erotic dream, to be exact."

HOPESFALL contributed the track "Bird Flu" to the "Trustkill Takeover II" compilation last fall, and a slightly altered version will appear on "Magnetic North".
